Radioactive Materials Licensing

If you are applying for a new radioactive materials license or are looking for assistance ammending an existing license, you need the support of RSCS, LLC.

Radioactive materials licenses are required whenever radioactive material will be possessed and used for medical, industrial, or research purposes. When applying for a radioactive materials license, you will be expected to propose a set of rules and policies that will apply to your institution for that license. Often, mistakes are made in the writing of these license applications that result in lenghty delays or costly mistakes. Mistakes in applications and ammendments are costly to repair and may lead to significant potential for violations, which if severe enough may lead to the loss of privelage to use radioactive materials. When applying to use radioactive material, you need the help and support of someone who has experience writing applications and ammendments.

RSCS, LLC has experience writing license applications and ammendments for all types of medical uses, research uses, and industial applications of radioactive material. We will work with your facility to determine the best type of license to apply for and the most effective set of rules and policies to propose in your application. We will walk you through the complicated process of ensuring you have the required individuals on staff, provide the proper training for your staff, and all the required elements of a radiation safety program. We will be there with you the entire way until you obtain your license or ammendment.

We recommend that licenses and ammendments be written by experienced individuals after significant consultation with the facility. However, some useful guidance from the NRC in writing radioactive materials licenses is found in NUREG 1556. And rules governing the use of radioactive material for the State of Utah are found in various sections of R313 of the Utah Administrative Rules.
